The Kemon Hair Academy of Beauty and Barbering was created to bring the best of our cutting worlds together. Both Cosmetology and Barbering under one roof. It has been said that if you wanted to cut hair, you would go to a barber school. Well if you want to know all there is to know about hair you want to go to a school that teaches you both cosmetology and barbering and has history doing it.

Most beauty schools or hairstyling schools would only teach one or the other in the academy, always leaving out something. Kemon Hair Academy looks to allow the students the best methods of teaching for learning all there is to know about hair.

In 1975 World Champion Hair Stylist Kostas Melissaris looked at the hairstyling profession and realized, “ No One person could cut everyone’s hair in the world”. It is here that he believed that the talent of cutting and styling hair needed to be passed onto the generations. To create this dream he opened his first Hair Academy in Charlotte NC, The Hairstyling Institute of Charlotte. Hailing from Athens Greece, Kostas knew that barbering alone would not last long in the U.S., let alone his new home city, thus making his first hair academy a European fashioned hair school.

After 35 years, and now his son Nicholas Melissaris at the helm, the Melissaris family is proud to present The Kemon Hair Academy of Beauty and Barbering. This school was a long time in the making, simply because all of the correct pieces needed to be in place before it was launched. “ Hair Fashion is my passion, and the combination of giving my students the ability to be creative and financially rewarded is what drives me to give them the best of information our hair styling profession has to offer”. “For a student to be given the opportunity in hairdressing two things need to be present, a personal dedication to his or her industry and the quality of the credentials that they can present not only to the hair styling salons, but more importantly the client in how they create for them”… Choosing to study at The Kemon Hair Academy provides you with both.

Upon looking for the educational systems that are provided today in our beauty and barbering or hairstyling profession, Nicholas found that few systems had the barber or hairdresser in mind as did The Kemon Group and Pivot Point Styling Systems. Trained in Roffler styling Techniques, Framesi Hair color, Peter Hantz perming and a slew of other professional hairstyling programs, both Kostas and Nicholas sat down to find the companies that pulled from family and education.

The Kemon Group which is from Italy, actually found the Melissaris family as it was looking for a distributor to begin carrying both its products and also teach the stylist in the US a better foundation based way of colouring and creativity in hair. First created in 1959, the Nocentini family has been producing and distributing products, training professional hairstylists, and creating images for the hair styling market for almost 50 years.

Three years ago, we embarked on the notion of opening up the first and only true Kemon Hair Academy in the United States for students that wish to begin their beauty profession in hair. Because the Nocentini and Melissaris families have the same mission statement for “quality, innovation, creativity and efficiency”, it was a perfect marriage in hair ideals and the vision of “ People are the most Valuable Resource”, could not be stated any better in our beauty profession.

When seeking our educational system for the Kemon Hair Academy of Beauty, Pivot Point was the beginning to the end. Leo Passge, Founder of Pivot Point and Kostas Melissaris go back in the beauty and hair industry from 1970’s. Mr. Passage’s inspiration stemmed from the world renowned and most celebrated art school of modern times. “ Its aim as well as Pivot Points was to train crafts people, hairstylists to elevate their skills to a higher level of artistic creativity”.

By adapting that philosophy to the craft of cosmetology and barbering, Pivot Point provides the educational structure to develop true hair designers.
